What is a Ceramic Coating?

It is a chemical solution that is applied to the exterior of your vehicle. Applied by hand, it bonds to the clear coat of your vehicle's paint creating a hydrophobic layer of protection. They're a semi-permanent coating designed to be a better alternative to waxes and paint sealants, helping to prevent dirt, grime, and stains from developing on your vehicle.

Advantages & Benefits?

  • Protection from harmful UV rays - ceramic coatings will help protect your vehicle paint from oxidizing in the sun causing your paint to fade and look dull.
  • Protection from chemical stains - this issue is on the rise due to the increase of acidic contaminants in the air.
  • Hydrophobic, ease of cleaning - unlike waxes, you do not have to worry about the coating wearing off while washing your vehicle. Due to the nano-structure of the coating, your vehicle will repel dirt and liquids.
  • Deep gloss finish - much like paint protection film (PPF/Clear Bra) it will add a depth of gloss to your paint. (it is important to highlight that the most important part of getting a ceramic coating is the preparation process. Be sure to ask your applicator what steps will be taken to ensure the best results)

What they cannot do!

  • Protection from scratches and swirl marks - it will not protect your car from scratches, swirl marks, and rock chips. All coatings retain similar characteristics of paint, if you are looking for protection from scratches and chipping, you should consider paint protection film
  • Water spots - they cannot prevent the development of water spots. While your vehicle will be more hydrophobic, water will still remain on your vehicle and often contains natural minerals and soluble particles that will stay on the surface after the water has evaporated.
  • No more car washes - you will still need to regularly wash your car. We recommend hand washing your vehicle, click here to read our guide to handwashing.

Is getting a Ceramic Coating worth it?

We think so! As we have discussed, ceramic coatings have their role in improving your vehicle's appearance while making it easier to maintain.  While they have their limitations, there is no perfect product that guarantees complete protection of your car that is why many of our customers choose to combine one of our paint protection packages and ceramic coating. Here is a link to an article where we discuss the difference between paint protection film, ceramic coatings and why both might be right for you!
